We also know that the wife and kid of Frank’s henchman live in a much nicer place than where Frank lives now.īeyond the unintentional comedy of the first 40 minutes, however, nothing really got going in the episode until Frank nearly had a “Mexican standoff with actual Mexicans.” What else did we learn? That Stan’s kid really needs a playdate with Ray’s kid. What did we learn from that sequence? That Blake had also met with Stan’s widow and child. Now, more than ever, Who the Hell is Stan on TRUE DETECTIVE? After five minutes with that little sh*t, I’d look like this, too: No wonder Ray went on the bender to end all benders, before destroying his house and conceding custody to his ex-wife. “I just murdered your mother, the town is burning to the ground, and zombies are overriding the planet.”Īwful kid. “Whatever they say, whatever things you hear, I am your father. Ray just wanted to spend some quality time with his son, but all Chad wanted to do was watch Joey eat a sandwich. Chad basically ignored Ray, the model airplane that he brought, and insisted, instead, on watching Friends.Īll due respect to Blake and Chessani, and with no offense to the actor who plays him, but I think we can all admit that Chad is the worst person on True Detective. “You might be one of the last friends I got,” Frank said to Ray.īut the comedic high point of the episode had to come with Ray’s visit with his son (under supervision). The best line of that sequence may have been the last, because it was also so very true: “On the ropes ain’t the same as bleeding out.” “I didn’t set you up, and I ain’t your suicide ticket.” “If that’s the sort of thing that keeps you out of heaven, I don’t want to go.” “I sold my soul for nothing,” Ray said to Frank. That sequence - in which Frank convinced Ray that he didn’t intentionally mislead him about the identity of his ex-wife’s rapist - included a lot of great gems that straddled the line between faux-profound and laughable. Take, for instance, the opening scene between Ray and Frank over the breakfast table, with the two holding a gun on each other. The humor may not always be intentional, but as a show to watch with others - either in real life or online - you have to admit that it’s been a lot of fun. Last night’s episode of True Detective, “Church in Ruins,” however, was another in a series of episodes that demonstrated that True Detective can be very funny, if you watch it the right way. Many of the complaints about True Detective early on this season centered on how bleak and oppressive the series was, and how it lacked any of the levity that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson occasionally brought to the first season.

When I went in for New Game+ it was more out of a sense of duty than desire. After trudging my way through the game, at the end, all I felt was disappointment and confusion at the muddled mess I had just played. I wish I could say the same about Dark Souls II. With pure love, I dove straight back into New Game+ for more punishment. I remember the awe as I clawed my way through the incredible landscape, learning through death, and the overwhelming satisfaction when I finally felled Lord Gywn and claimed victory as the hero (or anti-hero, depending on your choice), that the game hinted I might become. If you need more information and help, the rest of our Dark Souls 2 walkthrough and complete guide can be found here.Fast forward to 2011’s spiritual successor Dark Souls and the same adrenalised excitement coupled with fear overcame me as I ventured into the beautifully oppressive world of Lordran. Wait for Nashandra to approach again and repeat the above strategy to finish her off and complete the game.Ĭongratulations! Now you can start a New Game+. Shortly after this, she'll once again summon the objects that emit Darkness, and you'll need to move to the far side of the room. Back away immediately to avoid the following attack. If you back away from Nashandra, she uses a linear projectile-like attack that's essentially a line of Darkness.Ībout halfway through the battle, Nashandra's hand becomes engulfed in Darkness. Block or evade these attacks, then counter with one or two attacks of your own depending on the speed of your weapon. Nashandra attacks with either two horizontal swipes or a single vertical attack that's fairly linear. If you remain by the entrance, you'll be far enough away from the first batch of these objects to avoid any ill-effects. She'll summon three objects that create Dark and will curse you if you're too close to them. Final Boss: NashandraĪt the beginning of the final battle, stay near the entrance and let Nashandra come to you. Head back down the long path and enter the mist door to begin the final boss battle against Nashandra. You need to be patient during this battle to ensure you do not take unnecessary damage - chip away at their health bars a little at a time rather than trying to overreach yourself.Īfter defeating both enemies, speak with Shanalotte at the entrance to the Throne of Want. When a brief opening presents itself, attack once or twice depending on the speed of your weapon. If that's not an option, make use of a spear or similar weapon that allows you to block with your shield while still attacking.Ĭontinue to strafe in circles around both enemies, keeping them within view at all times. The key is to get them far enough apart that you have time to attack one without having to worry about avoiding an attack from the other. Focus on the Watcher, but deplete both health bars as evenly as possible.īoth enemies attack with standard two or three hit combos at close range, and lunging attacks from a distance. You have a short time before one downed boss stands back up if the other isn't defeated. If possible, take down the Watcher first, but it's important to take them down nearly at the same time. Keep both bosses in view at all times and focus on whichever one is closest to you. The Watcher is fairly agile, while the Defender is slower and slightly more powerful. Going up against both the Watcher and the Defender is challenging due to their complementary abilities. Boss Battle: Throne Watcher and Throne Defender Continue down the path all the way to the mist door at the end to battle against the Throne Watcher and Throne Defender bosses. Go down the stairs to enter the Throne of Want. Head left and open the door at the very end. Travel to the first bonfire in the Drangleic Castle. “We really wanted to exclude all the representation codes that were built up after the war, the scene logic to the way characters are addressed or behave, because they’re related to survival strategies,” says Nemes. But he is reluctant to align the film with Hollywood dramatisations such as Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, which tend to be couched as sentimental narratives of good and evil and position a hero whose humanistic compass we can root for. Nemes professes respect for the astounding achievement of Claude Lanzmann’s 1985 Shoah, which stands as the definitive documentary bearing witness to the Holocaust, and says the team revisited its survivor testimonies along with consulting personal accounts in their research. As time passes and survivor numbers dwindle, the sense of urgency in passing historical memory on to subsequent generations only seems to be becoming stronger. The trio are quick to acknowledge that attempts to render the Holocaust on screen are already numerous. Of the eight languages heard in the film, Yiddish is dominant - a language that almost disappeared in the Holocaust along with its speakers. “The sound constantly reminds you as a viewer that there’s more.” The sonorities of speech as historical memory were also important. We’re looking at what he is interested in - he’s not paying attention to the horror because there was a sort of psychological distance he had to create.” While our point of view is restricted, sounds - from screams to gunshots and desperate whispers - never let up on their hellish implications. “The way we stick to him is a way to accompany him through the journey. “I wonder whether we should have given him less expensive shoes to save budget, because they were not needed,” jokes Nemes. We’re so close in, we never see his whole body. Shot in shallow focus and tracked through long takes, he fills almost every frame, his surroundings a chaos of blur and din. Powerfully nailing traumatised disconnect as Saul is first-time actor Geza Rohrig, who has penned two poetry collections on the Shoah. “He was my film school,” says Nemes, adding: “It’s a long Hungarian tradition. It was important for us to make a film for this generation to understand, rather than having all these years of projected explanations and sentimentality.” While he developed his own singular approach, Nemes’ work as an assistant director to Béla Tarr, Hungary’s cinematic master of formal rigour and philosophical weight, primed him well for such an undertaking. I don’t have a family really because they were wiped out. “Not even stories, but the constant frustration that something terrible happened in the family and we don’t understand how. Nemes’ drive to make the film came from his own personal relationship to the Holocaust: “I’ve been infused with the stories,” he says. It’s 1944 toward the end of the war, and there’s a frantic desperation to the pace that compounds the sickening sense-impression fever. Scrubbing down walls and floors, carrying bodies to the incinerators, and shovelling ashes: in each task Saul goes through the motions while blocking himself mentally from their enormity. There’s a lack of overt context as we first see him steering new arrivals into what they’re told are showers, but we soon grasp the act’s abject meaning. In panicked numbness he goes about his labour, navigating a sensory tumult of horrors as a cog in the industrialised killing machine. “Something had to be done to bring the viewer’s experience back to the level of one human being.” Son of Saul does just that, immersing us in the experience of Saul Ausländer, a Hungarian-Jewish prisoner and Sonderkommando worker in the crematoriums at Nazi death camp Auschwitz. They try to show too much, and tell too much,” Nemes says. “I’ve been completely frustrated by other films on the Holocaust. If it wasn’t for the predictable missions it would have been a frustrating game because the AI co-commander was just so annoyingly dumb. The co-commander just turned out to be a failure far more times than it helped things out. The same goes for attacking targets, that doesn’t mean move up to the target but stop just far enough back that you can’t attack them. This weird bug was not their only down fall, commanding them to take position at an enemy base in my mind does not mean move all your forces to that location, die, and leave your base completely unguarded while the enemy destroys you. But this force was completely made up of about 40 dolphins, from that point I just rolled my eyes and decided perhaps ignoring them would be easier. While I was busy wiping out the Imperial forces with my long range Athena cannon my co-commander was amassing a force. My co-commander stayed at the other area and built her base back up eventually we had excess funds to get any units. She and I survived and I used my chronosphere to travel to a safe, well funded area. In one of the later missions for the allies my co-commander and I were near wiped out by a scripted event. There are 18 new campaign missions, 9 for each side. This add-on introduces new fully playable units - Chrono Tank, Demolition Truck, Field Mechanic, Tesla Tank, Shock Trooper, M.A.D. All this really means is that half of your money is going to fund a selection and group of units you have no control over The Aftermath is the second add-on to Command and Conquer: Red Alert. Funds are shared between you are your co-commander, immediately you might be thinking how this means you’ll have more money. Command & Conquer Red Alert: The Aftermath Review The Aftermath is a heck of a deal that practically turns Red Alert into an entirely new game. Most other times though they proved to be a nuisance than a bonus. Another time they helpfully covered one of my larger vulnerable units from attacks. The other thing it encouraged me to do was help them build defences, sometimes they’d forget to and their base would be decimated by a few small units. If there is one thing the co-commander helps with is the pacing of the missions and making them go a bit quicker if you are a turtler. The co-commanders were introduced so all missions could be done in co-operative mode, as somebody who plays my entire single player RTS games alone I was curious to see how this works out. They have bases situated near you or in the equivalent position on the other side of the level. All the single player missions in Red Alert 3 feature a co-commander, which sadly doesn’t really help the game. Scroll down and then tap on the ‘System UI Tuner’ option at the bottom. Shadow of the Tomb Raider launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 14. For players that own a home theater system, this spatial audio will provide a completely immersive experience, but all players will still hear those effects due to the overall increase in audio fidelity on the Xbox One X. It is clear that these Xbox One X enhancements will create an overall improved experience of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and a week before the title's release date may be a good time to invest in an Xbox One X if for those who do not own one already. Combining the base game, all seven DLC challenge tombs, as well as all downloadable weapons, outfits, and skills, Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is the ultimate way to experience Lara’s defining moment. Microsoft also explains that it has revamped the entire pipeline to be HDR from the get go, which includes realistic lights intensity calibration, HDR textures, and global illumination energy conservation.įinally, audio immersion is provided with Dolby Atmos, especially in the jungle areas that have been seen in the gameplay montage, which are dense with wildlife such as locusts below and birds above. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition experience the final chapter of Lara’s origin as she is forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be. To fix this you need to make a solder bridge to connect pins 7 and 8 together. It will read most sections but not the DME (engine) section. Another problem is that in older cars, for example my 2004 3-series, it will not read engine codes. I thought there was a problem with the car. That's really annoying since it took a while for the try-n-error to exchange the cable. Turning off the cold check flickers, LED bulb warning messages, and other cool stuff (like dimming the brightness of the angel eyes) is all easy to do. I love how easy it is to reprogram modules, and especially, the lighting computer. It's a perfect, lightweight companion to the more powerful INPA/EDIABAS computer system. I like it so much, I bought two, just in case one fails. It's not the easiest tool to get up and running, but once it's working, it's an invaluable asset in my toolbox. google ftdi chip d2xx drivers and you will find working drivers for windows 10. Also be careful on jumping the pins on the round connector as I round a few incorrect diagrams. I did read the z3 and some other bmw used the round connect thru 2007. Be sure to google the BMW forums if you have any questions. In BMW e46's built prior to mid 2000 you must jump pin 2 to 17 and pin 2 to 20 on the round under hood connector for this in car obd reader to be able to access all of the diagnostics. After much research I found out that I have a bmw 328 that has both the in car obd connection as well as the under hood round 20 pin bmw diag connector. One very important note - I almost tossed this in the trash as it would only read a small subset of the obd data and not srs or airbag data or even allow reprogramming. Word of advice, if you have the round 20 pin under your hood, you'll need an OBD 16 pin to 20 pin adapter as well since you can only read a few modules through the OBD while the rest have to be under the hood. Pins 7 & 8 are already soldered as is necessary for these OBD connectors to work. Worked without issue on my '01 e38 and running on an old XP laptop.
